This kind of fun never gets old!

Calling all future paleontologists: this Science After Dark will be a blast from the past! Join us for some dino-mite discovery as we explore ancient creatures, plants and stars. Your family will dig all the hands-on activities.

  • Make a pterosaur that can glide through the air. Did you know the largest pterosaur that ever lived had a wingspan of more than 40 feet?!
  • Flex your geologist muscles! Test your rock layer game skills and touch real fossil specimens, including a megalodon tooth.
  • Explore galactic archeology during a live astronomy show. You’ll get to look at stars and piece together the history of an entire galaxy.
  • Create track stories with animal footprints in different environments. Future scientists aged five and under can use stamps to develop their habitat.
  • Experience some science storytelling as you go on an adventure with Susie Sleuth. This short skit is filled with silly shenanigans as Susie has the audience help evaluate evidence to solve the mystery of whether the Tyrannosaurus rex was a predator or scavenger.
  • Become a fossil hunter to see if you can find imprints in the limestone used to build the Science Museum.
  • Learn about ancient plants and taste seaweed made from a red algae whose ancestors have been around since the Neoproterozoic Era.
  • Incoming! Is it a dsungaripterus? Is it a hatzegopteryx? Is it a rhamphorhynchus? Build a catapult to see how far you can make a prehistoric creature fly through the air.
  • Visit a 150-million-year-old insect in the Animal Lab. Well, not really. Our cockroaches aren’t that old, but cockroaches have been on our planet that long! Check out unusual creatures from both past and present, and marvel at the fascinating results of evolution.
  • Dive into the past and see if you can correctly identify prehistoric creatures. Hint: just because something lived at the time of the dinosaurs doesn’t make it one!

This is a family friendly, one-time event so make sure your plans are set in stone to attend. Sing it with us: ain't no party like a prehistoric party because a prehistoric party don't stop!
